Grand Canyon Hiking

Welcome to the Grand Canyon hiking page. Here's where I share some photos from our annual treks into the Grand Canyon. This hike has become a tradition with us. It started out in the summer of 1996, and we've been going back every year ever since. It's a great way to get to know one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Our hike begins at the South Kaibab Trailhead on the South Rim and descends 5000 feet to the Colorado River. After lunch and a brief rest at Phantom Ranch, we take Bright Angel Trail along the river, up to Indian Garden, and finally back to Grand Canyon Village. This hike usually lasts the whole day.

We typically camp out the night before and the night of the hike. Mather Campground at the South Rim is a great facility for this event. The barbeque on Saturday night after the hike is especially satisfying. If you are interested in hiking the Canyon with us next year, drop me a line at charles@asu.edu.

Here are some photos from each of our trips. It's kinda funny (and sad) to see how my appearance has changed over the years!

At the bottom of the list are photos from my trip to Havasupai at the west end of the grand canyon. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Havasupai and will make it a regular visit in coming years.
